The Sheik of Scrubby Creek

Cowboy Polocross

His Charisma Knows No Boundaries

It is over fifty years since Chad Morgan scored a notable success on Australia’s Amateur Hour radio program and immediately submerged himself into the racial subconscious as “The Sheik of Scrubby Creek”. In that time his reputation has grown among the cognoscenti.

Chad is a performer unique in his field – a creative artist whose personality is so much a part of the songs he writes and sings that it us inconceivable that anyone else could perform them. Chad not only sings these songs in an inimitable way but he has created a gallery of characters he sings about – the embattled male, the kiss-and-run lover, the idle boaster, the nagging spouse and the whinging wife, they are just as much a part of the Australian scene as the kookaburra and the koala – and just as harmless. He has been described as “our first native songster and true troubadour”. Tex Morton once said Chad was the only original artist in Australia.

Chad’s ambition was to record for Regal-Zonophone Records “The Sheik” was an immediate sensation but many in the business dubbed him a one hit wonder and it was three years before he again entered the studio to record six titles, one being The “Shotgun Wedding”. Thus his rewarded legacy was in the making. Chad is into comic, farce and slapstick – the ultimate comic of Australian country music. He is instantly recognizable with his unique trademark – THOSE TEETH!!

Chad portrays Aussie culture WARTS AND ALL – and we love him for it. The dry humour that he uses to send up our beloved institutions and customs have thousands of people laughing at themselves every time they hear him sing. Chad still has an enormous and devoted following and is constantly touring the country and never misses his eagerly awaited performances at the Annual Tamworth Festival. He was inducted into the TAMWORTH HANDS OF FAME in 1979 the ROLL OF RENOWN in 1987 the Kempsey LIVING LEGEND AWARD in 2002 and the ORDER OF AUSTRALIA MEDAL in 2004.

Dennis Morgan

Dennis Morgan

Dennis Morgan has been entertaining for 29+ years in bands and as a solo artist touring, as a support act for the Chad Morgan show for six years and also in his own entity. He has been involved in recording and national television on such shows as Conway Country and other musical variety shows.

In 1987 he recorded a songs called “Henry Lawson” which was entered into the Golden Guitar Awards in Tamworth in 1988, and reached the final five in the heritage section and also received extensive national airplay.

Since then, he has lived and worked in the Whitsunday region of North Queensland playing in clubs and hotels throughout the state and has recently recorded three CD’s. the first of which is called ‘In Over My Heart”, the second is ‘A Salute to Don Williams’ an American country singer who retired in 2006, and the third is an album of original songs called ‘A Substitute No More’, which was released in April 2009.

He has a very mellow, yet at times raunchy voice covering such artists as Don Williams, The Eagles, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Jim Reeves, Jimmy Buffet, Neil Diamond, James Taylor and the like.

A Night with Dennis Morgan has been described as “music that bites and humour that sucks”.

A recent addition to his shows is a salute to Don Williams which is very well received by Don Williams fans everywhere.

In January and February 2008, he toured the north island of New Zealand where he was accepted extremely well by fans and organizers alike, he has just completed ab extended tour of the north island in 2009 when he was a special guest at the Bay of Islands Country Music Festival in Paihia. While in New Zealand, he met Bob and Sheila Everhart from the National Traditional Country Music Association in the USA, and they were so impressed with Dennis that they invited him to be inducted into their Hall of Fame.

John McSweeney

John McSweeney

“Where do we get more John McSweeney Music?”

Born on a dairy farm in the Woodford area of Queensland, John McSweeney never imagined that one day his music would be sold not only in Australia and New Zealand but also right throughout the United Kingdom and now in the United States of America where John has just released his third album “100 Songs You Know by Heart Volume 3”.

John McSweeney has always had a love for the great songs that were written back in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s so he made a decision back in the late 80’s to put together medleys of all the great standards that people could sing along with, either at a party or in the car travelling. John recorded 50 songs in medleys than another 50 due to the success of that first recording. He has now recorded 4 Volumes, 8 CD’s that contain over 450 songs.

In the late 90’s John McSweeney decided it was the time to try and have his music released in other countries and his first trip was to the United Kingdom where the first record company he approached signed John up on the spot and as a result he has sold well in excess of 500,000 copies of his sing-along music.

Next stop was the USA where he went to New York which John admits was a little harder to gain a contract but after a couple of visits he signed with the biggest music catalogue in the USA where his third volume has just been released and has started receiving letters from all over the USA with comments that they love his voice and it was great to hear the old songs that they grew up with once again.

Due to the success of his music in the American catalogue, the record company have now decided to advertise his Volume 1 “100 Songs You Know by Heart” on television which is not bad for a young fellow who grew up on a dairy farm in Queensland.

Terry Gordon

Terry Gordon

Welcome to my Kind of Country

Born in Taralga, NSW, Terry was just five when his father took him to see 'Tex Morton's Wild West Show'. Constantly in demand for work, he has appeared on most of the major variety shows, as well as on specialised CM TV programs. In the mid-eighties, Terry had his own live weekly TV show on Tamworth's NEN 9. He was inducted into the Hands of Fame at Tamworth in 1981.

Terry Gordon was honored with the coveted award of Country Music Entertainer of the year 1993, not only as a tribute to his recent touring and recording success, but also as a mark of respect for his 30 continuous years as a multi-talented performer. Since beginning his distinguished recording career, he has released 25 singles and 20 albums.

His versatility as a balladeer, songwriter, bush poet, comedy performer and TV host has established Terry as one of CM's finest entertainers. The Sheepdogs

The Sheepdogs

There's a stringband coming to town with a foot-tapping groove as deep as a Memphis bayou. The Sunshine Coast’s Sheepdogs swing, thump and croon their way through varied, interesting, and often obscure, stringband music from the 1930s onward.

The Sheepdogs are Steve Treloar, mandolin; Lee Wilson, resonator guitar; and Colin Thorne on flattop guitar. Colin has a whole rhythm section packed into his thumb and drives the band with his unusual fingerstyle playing. Steve adds tophat rhythm and melody lines on his mandolin and Lee plays jazzy, ragtimey resonator guitar. Their singing is energetic and period inspired. There are tasty bits of early jazz, bluegrass, honky tonk and western swing in their playing and their good-time energy is infectious.

So come on down for an infusion of their patent medicine: Sheepdog Syncopation. It’s in the finest Medicine Show tradition.
